Health Technology Co-operatives

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has set up eight new Health Technology Co-operatives (HTCs), to support the development of new medical devices, healthcare technologies or technology-dependent interventions, which improve treatment and quality of life for patients.

The NIHRs aim to:

• act as a catalyst for NHS ‘pull’ for the development of new medical devices, healthcare technologies and technology-dependent interventions
• focus on clinical areas and/or themes of high morbidity which have high potential for improving quality of life of NHS patients and improving the effectiveness of healthcare services that support them
• work collaboratively with patients and patient groups, charities, industry and academics

HTCs aim to bring together partners or consortia which will then seek funding from other sources, e.g., TSB, EPSRC or H2020. Scottish Enterprise may support Scottish participants by way of a collaborative R&D Grant. 

Workshop Aims 

The Colorectal Therapies HTC is a national centre of expertise for the development of technologies in the area of colorectal disease. Its  focus is on minimally invasive therapies for disease and translating scientific innovation in engineering, nanotechnology and biosensing into clinical application.

This workshop is one of several taking place across the UK and will be of interest to sensor technology companies targeting the healthcare market. It aims to identify the next steps towards creating novel solutions to a series of previously identified clinical needs including:

• Personalised surgery
• Next generation ‘intelligent’ instruments
• Enhancement and monitoring of postoperative surgery
• Rapid early detection of disease, including ‘real time’ bedside diagnostics
• Prevention and early detection of leaks associated with and post colorectal surgery

Registration

The FREE to attend event will provide an opportunity for clinicians, scientists, engineers and industry partners already involved in device technologies, or with an interest in applying existing technologies to new problems, to work with the HTC to accelerate new science into clinical application.
