Background

CENSIS is the Innovation Centre for Sensor and Imaging Systems (SIS); a centre of excellence enabling industry to work with university research teams on market-focused SIS innovation, developing products and services for global markets.

In sensor and imaging systems, Scotland has a dynamic and innovative user base and a robust supply chain. The research capability residing in our universities produces world-class outputs. However, there is still a gap between university research and industrial uptake: CENSIS bridges this gap, forming tripartite project teams to work on collaborative industry-led projects.

CENSIS also has its own in-house technical capability in system design and project management.

About the Event

Aimed at companies of any size operating in, or interested in, sensor and imaging systems technologies, this event will explain how to work with CENSIS and university experts to progress your R&D ideas within 6-18 month projects. You’ll also find out how to influence longer-term research in universities, tackling common challenges and needs identified by the market.

With over 140 companies working in sensor system technologies in Scotland and generating over £2.5Bn per year to the economy, find our how companies like yours can further benefit from working with CENSIS to develop new products or services, or break in to new markets.

Morning Session: 9.00am-2.00pm

The team from CENSIS will share with you the strategic and operational objectives of the Special Interest Groups and how they link in with your business. You will hear more about our in-house technical capability, and how the Technical Group supports activity to ensure your project is managed towards an agreed outcome and can be taken to market.

After coffee our Business Development Director will walk you through the business opportunities within the scope of CENSIS, and explain the ways in which industry-led technical challenges are managed with academic researchers and the CENSIS team. Our partners at SE will outline the funding opportunities available to support collaborative R&D activity.

Finally, you will be given an overview of our skills and training activity, including paid secondments between industry and universities.

Afternoon Session: 2.00-5.00pm

After lunch, our Project Clinics give you the chance to talk to us about opportunities or challenges your company has identified.

No matter whether your idea is at an early or advanced stage of development, our technical and business development staff will be on hand to chat with you about your idea and how you plan to exploit it.

Our clinic sessions are limited so it is important to submit your idea to us beforehand in order to allow us to undertake a preliminary assessment. We’ll then write to you with your clinic appointment time. These initial appointments will last 25-30 minutes.

• Types of projects CENSIS can fund and our process for developing and shaping ideas into fundable project proposals with external funding providers
• Roles and responsibilities of the Spokes (special interest groups)
• Different ways in which CENSIS can partner with you and the universities
• Capability, capacity and roles of the CENSIS engineering team
• Practicalities of creating a collaborative R&D project with CENSIS
• Role of Scottish Enterprise and other external funding providers in supporting R&D
