Up to £8 million in Scottish Government funding is available to support start-up businesses and entrepreneurs in addressing public sector challenges.

The latest round of the Scottish Government’s CivTech programme is inviting companies and individuals to propose innovative solutions and products aimed at improving various public sector services. The application deadline is 12pm on 8th September 2024.

Applications are open for the new ‘Round 10’ set of challenges that will use technology to address skills gaps, improve carbon measurement in forestry, monitor seabird populations, enhance firefighter safety, optimise emergency response, reduce pharmaceutical waste, promote a circular economy in healthcare supply chains, streamline data sharing across public organisations, and improve public consultation processes. The value of the challenges range from £650,000 to £1.3m.

Successful applicants will collaborate with their challenge sponsor to refine their proposals and compete for a spot in the programme’s Accelerator phase. This phase offers both financial and practical support to help develop the business and market the concept to the public sector.

Since its inception in 2016, the CivTech programme has received around £20 million in Scottish Government funding, benefiting 90 companies and entrepreneurs. CENSIS and CivTech formed a strategic partnership in 2019 to support successful applicants deliver their challenges.
