CENSIS CEO Paul Winstanley met the team behind Heriot-Watt University’s Robotics Society a couple of years ago, and was so impressed with their spirit, verve, commitment to inclusivity and passion for sharing ideas that he decided CENSIS should sponsor them.
Paul caught up recently with Bruce Wilson, the Society’s co-president recently to find out what the group has been up to this year, and what the society did with our donation – and what a year it has been.
The society has seen a huge boost in engagement, with more members participating and forming friendships within the society. It’s heart-warming to see this community growing.
Last semester, the group wrapped up its Mario Kart-inspired robotics workshop with members building robots from scratch and competing in an race at the university’s Robotarium. The society’s newly designed and painted racetrack is a standout feature for this year and will be used for future competitions too.
And finally, the team upgraded its parts database from a labour-intensive spreadsheet to a fully online system making it much easier for members to browse and borrow parts.
It’s wonderful to see this group thriving, and we look forward to seeing what they do next.
