What are the opportunities for your university in research, business development, knowledge transfer and engagement?
Background
CENSIS is the Innovation Centre for Sensor and Imaging Systems (SIS) technologies; a centre of excellence enabling leading industry innovators and world-class university researchers to collaborate at the forefront of market-focused SIS innovation, developing products and services for global markets.
In sensor and imaging systems, Scotland has an innovative and dynamic user base, plentiful component suppliers, and a robust supply chain. There is broad and deep research capability residing in our universities, producing world-class research outputs. However, there remains a gap between university research and industrial uptake. CENSIS will bridge this gap, forming tripartite project teams to work on collaborative industry-led projects.
Acting as a single contracting point to access all of the research capabilities across Scotland, CENSIS also has its own in-house technical capability in system design and project management.
About the Event
Aimed exclusively at business development and knowledge exchange staff working within Scotland’s HEIs, the event is designed to explain how universities can best engage with the Innovation Centre via shorter-term R&D projects as well as longer-term strategic research.
The team from CENSIS will share with you the strategic and operational objectives of the research-led Spokes (Special Interest Groups), how they link in, and explain how university engagement via the Spokes (Special Interest Groups) can be integrated into relevant industry-led projects
You will hear more about our in-house technical capability, and how the Technical Group will support activity between industry and academia.
After coffee our Business Development Director will walk you through the business engagement opportunities within the scope of CENSIS, and explain the ways in which universities can get involved via market-led opportunities it wishes to explore with a commercial partner and longer-term strategic research tackling common industry challenges. Our partners at SE will outline the funding opportunities available to support collaborative R&D activity.
Finally, you will be given an overview of the new postgraduate activity CENSIS is supporting, including funding for research studentships.
Aims and Objectives
At the end of this event, you will have an understanding of:
- The Hub and Spoke management structure of CENSIS
- The roles and responsibilities of the research-led Spokes (Special Interest Groups)
- The types of projects CENSIS can fund and our process for developing and shaping ideas into fundable project proposals with external funding providers.
- The different ways in which HEIs can work with CENSIS
- The capability, capacity and roles of the CENSIS engineering team, and how they will work with industry and academic researchers
- The practicalities of creating a collaborative R&D project with CENSIS
- The role of Scottish Enterprise and other external funding providers in supporting collaborative projects
Who Should Attend?
The event is intended solely for business development and knowledge exchange personnel working directly with Scottish HEIs, particularly supporting sensor system activity, in particular engineering, physical sciences, ICT and related disciplines.
This event is not aimed at industry: separate events for an industry audience will take place in September 2014.
