The Lighthouse, Glasgow G1 3NU
17 June 2015, 9.30am – 4.30pm
Please join us to debate the challenges around condition monitoring and asset integrity/health from an end user and Scottish sensor and imaging systems supply chain perspective, identifying opportunities for CENSIS strategic intervention.
Background
The inaugural meetings of the five CENSIS Special Interest Groups (Spokes) took place in November 2014. Subsequently, the CENSIS Research Technology and Advisory Group (RTAG) – the group that identifies target areas for impact and advises the CENSIS Governing Board on technical issues – met to review the findings and recommendations that emerged from each.
The RTAG identified a set of multidisciplinary themes around which to coalesce active industry engagement; both in terms of specifying and delivering collaborative R&D projects, and pinpointing longer-term strategic themes on which CENSIS may be able to focus some of its funding.
Interactive Workshop
The RTAG noted that the two strongest cross-cutting themes to emerge from the November meetings were centred around Hyperspectral Imaging and Asset Monitoring and Management. In both cases, these subjects are areas of technology or application with substantial levels of interest from each Spoke, coupled with the potential to tackle industry-wide challenges via the Scottish supply chain.
Following a recommendation from RTAG, CENSIS will hold interactive workshops in each of these areas to capture industry needs and begin to define and develop the longer-term technology and research solutions to meet those needs.
Definitions
Our definition of condition monitoring is wide ranging and covers:
- Active machines for systems with ‘driven moving parts’, e.g., sensing vibration, temperature, acoustic emission, impact detection, or wear debris; plus electrical circuit faults and degradation affecting things like performance or insulation.
- Dynamic structures for systems that fatigue, e.g., mooring lines, plane wings, MEMS devices suspension bridges, lift cables.
- Static passive structures, e.g., oil platforms, concrete bridges, embankments, road surfaces, rail lines.
Aims & Objectives
Please join us for a day of networking, discussion and debate in a facilitated, interactive workshop environment to identify and develop industry-wide challenges around the second workshop theme on condition monitoring and asset management.
The aim of the day will be to:
- Identify new research challenges in the sector applicable to a wide range of market.
- Identify concrete actions through which CENSIS will support them.
- Build new consortia for collaborative project activity/creation.
- Develop new supply chain relationships.
It is the intention to develop specific outline proposals for CENSIS funding. Initially these will be feasibility studies with a view to developing larger fundable proposals.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop will discuss new opportunities and identify longer-term challenges that could be addressed using CENSIS and/or other third party funding.
This is a multidisciplinary event that will be relevant to members of all of the CENSIS Spokes, and is designed to bring together the whole supply chain – technology providers, end users, solution providers, platform providers, system integrators and academic researchers. You do not need to have attended the Spoke workshops in November to come to this workshop.
