CENSIS IoT Centre Technology Seminar Series
Please register your interest and apply to join CENSIS, WND and Sigfox for a free, interactive design workshop; part of a series of seminars brought to you by the CENSIS IoT Centre.
This workshop is now full, but please contact us to be put on the waiting list.
Background
The IoT Centre at CENSIS helps companies overcome many of the challenges they face in product development and allow them to fast-track the development of IoT products and services. In addition to a demonstration area and project development space, we offer regular technology seminars with high profile vendors to provide advice and guidance on how best to use their products to generate greater business efficiencies.
Aims and Objectives
This workshop focuses on the Sigfox network for non-commercial use, R&D and PoCs/PoVs. SMEs can use the Sigfox network for free for up to 100 devices for one year with no commercial commitment required.
You’ll be introduced to LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technologies and the simplicity of connecting devices to a real world live network. You will learn how to create a sensor device and connect this to the cloud in just a few minutes, so that data can be logged immediately with zero commercial or technical barriers to success. The day will include demonstration and hands-on practical work, and will include how to register a Sigfox account, obtain device subscriptions, find tutorials and coverage maps and get access to user forums.
At the end of the day, you will have the skills you need to start your own development with this technology.
About WND and Sigfox
With its global LPWAN, Sigfox has reinvented connectivity for IoT, drastically bringing down the costs and energy consumption required for securely connecting physical devices to the Cloud.
WND-UK is rolling out the UK nationwide Sigfox Network with over 94% population coverage before end of 2018, delivering a truly ubiquitous and secure LPWAN network in the UK, accelerating real-world IoT monetisation. This is not an R&D test-bed or a network ‘dress rehearsal’; WND-UK is building the future by making ‘Things’ come alive.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop is aimed at experienced Design Engineers, Technical Managers and Solution Architects, keeping them up-to-date with the latest technical developments around connected devices and IoT. Regrettably the workshop is not suitable for current undergraduates or new graduates/students.
Agenda
Registration and coffee from 9:45am
Morning Session
- Introductions from Sigfox (Kevin Maher) and WND (Neal Forse)
- Real world UK use-cases and deployments
- How to get started on Sigfox at zero cost
Break / Lunch
Afternoon Session
- Hands-on introduction to a Sigfox Device
- Introduction to the Sigfox Cloud Back-End
- How to create a new device (building a button)
Required Kit
Just bring your own WiFi enabled laptop. The session will require an up-to-date Chrome browser and USB port. The delegates will need to install the Arduino dev environment software during the session. Any further joining instructions will be sent to you before the day.
Register your Interest
Places for this event are strictly limited to a maximum of 12 delegates, and demand is likely to be high. To register your interest email us with:
- Your name, job title and organisation
- A couple of lines about why you are interested in this workshop.
The closing date for applications is 10 January 2018. We’ll let you know by 12 January if you have secured a place. Please note that because of the limited number of places, we’ll have to give priority to engineers with experience or a proven interest in this area.
This is joint event delivered by CENSIS, WND and Sigfox, and application information may be shared with all three organisations.
