Up to 12 places available
High-tech start-up businesses can now apply to be based at the brand new Higgs Centre for Innovation, based at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh.
Driven by the UK Astronomy Technology Centre, the Centre will open to businesses in early 2018. The new facility, run in partnership with the University of Edinburgh, will apply business incubation best practice to big data and space technology, enabling start-ups to translate fundamental research into wider commercial impact.
Along with providing incubation space, business training, technical advice, and access to equipment and facilities for up to 12 companies, the Centre will provide PhD students with direct experience of
entrepreneurial environments and offer SMEs access to specialist labs and test facilities for micro/nano-satellites housed within dedicated clean-rooms.

Named in honour of Professor Peter
Higgs, the British scientist and Nobel Prize winner who theoretically predicted the existence of the Higgs boson almost 50 years before its discovery, the Centre has received Government investment of nearly £11 million.
Announcement of this initiative was made in December 2013.
