CENSIS IoT Centre Technology Seminar Series

Inovo Building, 121 George Street, Glasgow G1 1RD

10:00-15:30 (registration from 09:45)

Background
The IoT Centre at CENSIS helps companies overcome many of the challenges they face in product development and allow them to fast-track the development of IoT products and services. In addition to a demonstration area and project development space, we offer regular technology seminars with high profile vendors to provide advice and guidance on how best to use their products to generate greater business efficiencies.

Aims and Objectives

In this workshop we’re partnering with The MathWorks to show you how to use MATLAB® for algorithm development and data analytics, Simulink® for edge node deployment and how to scale from concept to production for cloud based analytics.

ThingSpeakTM is a free to register cloud based analytics platform in which you use MATLAB to develop your analytics algorithms. During the hands-on exercise, you will create a channel in ThingSpeak to manage, analyse and visualise data through writing MATLAB code.

About MATLAB, Simulink and ThingSpeak

MATLAB and Simulink support IoT systems by helping you develop and test smart devices, access and collect data in the cloud, and analyse IoT data. Integration of MATLAB within the ThingSpeak cloud based analytics platform enables you to leverage MATLAB analytics and provides routes to scaling from prototype to implementation using a common environment.

Agenda

Please join us for coffee from 09:45, with the workshop starting at 10:00. On the day we will cover:

  • Sensor system and IoT architectures and workflows with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Prototyping sensor processing and deployment to edge nodes
  • Developing data analytics algorithms
  • Prototyping analytics on the cloud
  • Scaling to large scale implementation platforms

The workshop includes lunch and refreshments, and will end around 3:30pm. Over lunch delegates will have the opportunity to have a tour of CENSIS labs and its IoT Demonstration Centre.

Required kit

Each attendee will require a laptop to access the internet via Wi-Fi connection to the CENSIS provided network.

During the session we will set up a free MathWorks/ThingSpeak account to enable you to access the hands-on exercises. You will need to register using an email account you can access during the session for verification purposes.

Who should attend?

These workshops are hands-on events aimed at experienced design engineers, typically with a background in data analytics, electronic and electrical engineering or computer science; keeping them up-to-date with the latest technical developments around connected devices and IoT. It is not suitable for current undergraduates or new graduates/students or for people with limited design engineering experience.

Register your Interest

Places for this event are strictly limited to a maximum of 12 delegates, and demand is likely to be high.

To register your interest, just email us with:

  1. Name and contact details (email and telephone number)
  2. Job title and current employer
  3. Please let us know in a couple of sentences why you are interested in this workshop

We’ll contact you to let you know the outcome of your application.

Please note that because of the limited number of places, we’ll have to give priority to engineers with experience or a proven interest in this area.

This is joint event from CENSIS and The MathWorks and your application information may be shared with all three organisations.
